A new Feudi di San Gregorio investment
Campo alle Comete (Comet Filed) is the suggestive name of the latest acquisition by Feudi di San Gregorio, the dynamic Campania estate that is in full territorial expansion. It is also the only estate from southern Italy to invest in other regions bucking a trend that usually sees important northern groups investing heavily in central and southern Italy. After buying into the Sirch estate in Friuli and other ones in Sicily and Puglia, it has now turned its attention to Tuscany with a 10-million-euro investment near Bolgheri, in the trendy seaside area that produces wines that have not fully caught on in Italy but are very well-positioned abroad.
Campo alle Comete is in the village of Castagneto Carducci, not far from the coast, and has some 15h of vineyards planted, as many are in the area, with the French grapes Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, the percentages of which will change in coming years. The estate already has a winery, which will be modernized both technically and in regard to the barrels used, as well as a lovely 18
At present the only wine on the market is Stupore (Awe) made with grapes from the 2015 harvest. The wine is a bridge between the vineyards’ previous owners Guicciardini-Strozzi who made the base wines while the Comete alle Comete staff decided the final blend.
