Sweet Wines (4): The ‘other’ France
We now move to France but from a different direction, leaving aside for now Sauternes and Alsace to focus on the areas of Languedoc-Roussillon, Jura, Juracon, Loire and so on…
If we exclude the sweet wines from the celebrated and famous regions of Sauternes and Alsace, France offers an array of wines with a high sugar content that are extraordinarily varied and surprising, above all from the south. The zone of Languedoc-Roussillon is among the most celebrated for producing excellent sweet wines as are Jura , Juracon and Loire.
Although little known in Italy, there are some authentic gems from these areas that shine in their own light being produced by vigneron who are true artists when it comes to sweet wine. We have sought out and tasted some of the rarest and more famous of these wines many of which have received top honors in French wine guides and are considered among the best of their kind in the world.
