New record for ‘Barolo en primeur’: 811 thousand euros for the solidarity auction
In three years, the solidarity competition has raised a total of more than 2.3 million euros, establishing itself as one of the most important Italian auctions for social purposes.
Solidarity knows no bounds: the third edition of Barolo en primeur sets a new collects €811,000 donated by philanthropists and investors present at the Grinzane Cavour Castle, connected live from Christie's offices in New York and London or from the online platform Auction Collective. A new success for one of the largest and most important Italian solidarity contests promoted and organized by Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Cuneo, Fondazione CRC Donare ETS in collaboration with Consorzio di Tutela Barolo Barbaresco Alba Langhe e Dogliani, which took place on the evening of Friday, October 27.
Under the gavel of Christie's Italy director Cristiano De Lorenzo, 11 lots were hammered out, to which were associated as many 225-liter barriques of Barolo Vigna Gustava from the 2022 vintage, which will each yield 270 bottles, the 550-liter Barrique del Presidente, and 10 communal lots made up of 1. 336 bottles of Barolo and Barbaresco from the 2022 vintage donated by 95 Producers of the Consortium for the Protection of Barolo Barbaresco Alba Langhe and Dogliani, who came together under the name of the production commune : a total of 1,034 0.75-liter examples, 242 magnums and 60 Jeroboams, for a total of 1318.5 liters.
Records for the 500-liter tonneau, beaten for €280,000, and barrels 10 and 11, both won for €50,000, as well as municipal lot number 20, with a bid of €20,000. All proceeds, as in previous editions, will go to charity, benefiting various projects of local, national and international scope, in the fields of art, culture and social work. To the winners of the lots will go the gift of the relevant bottles, ready in 2026, embellished with the unique and unrepeatable label designed by the famous painter Otobong Nkanga, on which her original work "The Journey of a Sip" will be imprinted. The barrels are also vinified by Donato Lanati's Laboratorio ENOSIS Meraviglia and distinguished by the commentary of Antonio Galloni, world-renowned wine critic and CEO of Vinous.
To this result will be added the proceeds from the lot matched to the twelfth barrel, which will be auctioned on November 12 during the World White Truffle of Alba Auction, again at Grinzane Cavour Castle, live streamed with Hong Kong, Frankfurt, Singapore and Vienna, which will bring the third edition to surpass . The related donation will be donated to the international charity Mother's Choice, which has been working since 1987 to help orphaned children and young mothers in need.

"Until a few years ago, I could not have imagined that nearly 100 wineries in the area would collaborate on an initiative that combines the promotion of Barolo and Barbaresco with a charitable purpose," explains Matteo Ascheri, president of the Consorzio di Tutela Barolo Barbaresco Langhe e Dogliani. "As also demonstrated by the positive numbers of the exclusive tasting, Barolo en primeur has become an event with international resonance, which is helping to develop the culture of en primeur in Italy as well, an opportunity of great value for the entire national wine sector."
The proceeds from the municipal lots will go to fund the Alba Wine School, while the rest will go to support, among others, the Next-Level Social Promotion Association for a project to defend the right to study of minors, La Cascina Aquilone ETS that cares for adolescent boys and young adults with psychophysical and behavioral difficulties, the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Italia that promotes education on human rights, social justice, solidarity and sustainability, the MondoQui Association that aims to foster dialogue between people with different origins and cultures, and the China-Italy Philanthropy Forum for inter-cultural dialogue between European and Chinese philanthropic entities. The remaining six barrels will go to support social projects chosen by the philanthropists who won the respective lots.
