Benvenuto Brunello kicks off tomorrow: raise your glasses to Brunello 2019

The spotlight is shining on the 32nd edition of Benvenuto Brunello, the preview dedicated to the prince of Tuscan reds that, from tomorrow until Nov. 27, will bring journalists, professionals, experts, buyers, connoisseurs and wine lovers from all over Italy and the key countries of Italian wine demand in the world to Montalcino (SI).

Protagonists, in addition to Rosso di Montalcino 2022, Moscadello and Sant'Antimo, Riserva 2018 and, above all, Brunello 2019, coveted by critics and finally ready for the first tastings.

With 119 wineries and 310 labels being tasted, at the medieval village's Chiostro Sant'Agostino the first to swirl will be the glasses of the more than 100 Italian and foreign journalists and critics selected for two days (Nov. 17-18) of full immersion in tastings. The program continues on Saturday, Nov. 18 (11 a.m., Teatro degli Astrusi) with a panel discussion on "Wine and the Challenge of Sustainability: the future of Italy's vineyard," which, after greetings from the mayor of Montalcino, Senator Silvio Franceschelli, and the president of the Consorzio del vino Brunello di Montalcino, Fabrizio Bindocci, and a video intervention by the Minister of Agriculture, Francesco Lollobrigida, will feature the President of the Tuscany Region, Eugenio Giani; Simona Petrucci, senator member of the eighth standing committee (Environment, ecological transition, energy, public works, communications, technological innovation); Valoritalia general manager Giuseppe Liberatore; and Angelo Riccaboni, professor of business administration at the University of Siena. Among the now unmissable moments will be the presentation of the 2023 agronomic vintage, the awarding of the 32nd Leccio d'Oro prize, and, to follow, the laying of the traditional commemorative tile dedicated to this year's harvest on the coast of City Hall.

It then continues from Sunday, Nov. 19 to Nov. 22, and Nov. 25 to Nov. 27, with days reserved for trade professionals, while on Nov. 20 the 6 Masters of Wine meet to evaluate new vintages. Closing the calendar in Italy is the weekend dedicated to wine lovers (Nov. 25-27), while the lights of Brunello Day (Nov. 28) are turned on in New York, Dallas, Miami, Toronto, Vancouver, Zurich, Shanghai and Tokyo. The simultaneous international event, anticipated by the London leg on Nov. 21, doubles the number of foreign cities involved this year.
