While the color remains a lovely garnet, it is beginning to fade a little on the edge. The aroma is that of a year that was hot and difficult to manage. The bouquet has black olive and a balsamic note to help recognize the wine’s pedigree while both the fruit and floral components struggle to assert themselves with hints of ripe prune and black rose. While the results of aging in the bottle are evident, the wine holds up well for being 29 years old. In the mouthfeel the tannins are still youthful which helps to uphold the wine on the one side, while squeezing its taste on the other, resulting in a slightly compressed finish, with notes of licorice.
