The grapes for this wine come from the estate’s oldest vineyards where the vines are an average of 50 years old. The wine from each parcel is aged separately in French and Slovenian untoasted oak barrels ranging in size from 25 to 50 hectoliters. Once blended, the wine then ages for at least a year in the bottle. This is a dark wine with a classic ruby color despite being eight years old. The aroma is austere with notes of forest leaves, the estate’s typical balsamic trademark touch, a classic scent of slightly dried prune and black cherry note one preserved under spirits. The mouthfeel is intense and austere with a light licorice flavor and distinct and settling tannins. The progression is, as always excellent even if a bit more muscular than the previous wines. The finish is very persistent and intense.
