This was the least convincing vintage of the 1980s and while it is an excellent wine, it came as a disappointment after the exceptional ’85. The ruby color has some garnet reflections and is of medium intensity. The aroma has a nice persistence with its notes of vanilla and red fruit but it lacks a bit of complexity. The mouthfeel is balanced and the tannins are still present but not aggressive, while the persistence of the aftertaste is not exceptional.
