This was a valid year but not a ‘happy’ one considering expectations. The wine has an intense and concentrated ruby color but it is less bright than the ’92. The aromas are intense and concentrated with notes of vanilla, red fruit (Marasca cherry) and a hint of hay. The persistent mouthfeel is also intense and concentrated and the pleasing aftertaste is of red fruit and although the mouthfeel is soft, the tannins are a bit aggressive. This wine is still young and heavy, ‘big’ rather than great.
