Sapore di sale, sapore di mare

Punta Fieno on the island of Ponza is a corner of paradise in the hands of the gods and the men who have vowed to protect it. Here Luciana Sabino and Emanuele Vittorio have been able to bring back from the wild a vineyard of alberello-trained Biancolella grapes abandoned on small terraces that lead down towards the sea, adding new vines and varieties for a total of two hectares.

Their Antiche Cantine Migliaccio project began in 2000 and has not stopped since. The Punta Fieno vineyard and original winery are at the end of a 40-minute trek down a mule trail and, in fact, donkeys are needed to being the grapes to the new Pizzicato winery just outside the main town on Ponza.

Great effort is needed to each year harvest just over 3,500kg per hectare of Biancolella as well as the newer varieties Piedirosso, Guarnaccia Rossa and Aglianico.
