Tolaini and its Gran Selezione Vinga Montebello Sette

Tolaini’s Grand Selezione comes from their Tentuta Montebello’s organic vineyard N°7 but only in the best years. 

The Tolaini estate could be defined as Italo-American given that its owner-founder, Lucca native Pier Luigi Tolaini, immigrated to Canada when he was very young and there became a successful entrepreneur in the transport/logistics sector. His nostalgia for his homeland, however, led him to seek a place in ‘his’ Tuscany where he could spend his latter years. He found it in 1998 with a lovely estate in Castelnuovo Berardenga, in Chianti Classico. Today he rightfully enjoys his retirement and his wine estate is run by his charming and American-trained daughter Lia, who divides her time between New York and Tuscany with equal commitment. The last harvest brought two novelties at the estate: a new director, Alberto Fusi, a 40-year-old experienced agronomist; and a new enologist consultant, the respected and renowned Luca D’Attoma. This, in turn, has added an impetus to the conversion of the estate to organic methods.

Only time will tell whether these new arrivals will represent a step forward for the estate but for sure it has made significant progress towards quality in recent years with a study and mapping of the vineyards and experiments carried out in the winery. This also thanks to two young people who have been at the estate for years: Mattia Malanchi for the farming part and Francesco Rosi in the winery.
