Cantina Il Nuraghe in Mogoro, whites you wouldn’t expect
Cantina Il Nuraghe, founded in 1956, is an historic cooperative that has always sought to use local grapes starting with the white Semidano di Mogoro, which is exclusively grown in the area, and Bovale, Sardinia’s traditional red grape. The young and highly qualified enologist Daniele Manca is giving a new and vigorous boost to production with wines that are technically impeccable and have a taut style that enhances the grapes’ characteristics. The landscape of the area is typical of Marmilla, in southern Sardinia, dry, full of Mediterranean brush on low hills of poor and often sandy soil. What distinguishes this winery is the way it can bring out the best from white grapes, beginning with Semidano and including Nuragus and the inevitable Vermentino. The wines also have an incredible quality/price ratio.
