Gravner's 2015 Ribolla Gialla is a total, extraordinary wine where everything is in the right place, a wine that allows one to fully understand Josko Gravner's professional and also human journey.
The personal story of Josko Gravner, his wife Marjia, his daughter Matejia and his son Miha, who is sadly no longer with us, is the story of a family that has made viticulture and wine production the meaning of life. Josko is a rigorous, honest man with strong convictions. I have always had great respect for him, even when sometimes, rarely and mistakenly myself, I did not share some of his choices, not understanding them.
Tasting his 2015 Ribolla, I think I understood a lot about his journey, even human. Because if there is one wine he would consider perfect, it is this one. To call it orange wine is to do him an injustice. Sure, it is a macerated white, for seven months in buried amphora. Sure, it matures seven years in large oak barrels. But it is above all a total wine, where everything is in its right place. The oxidative component that does not define it completely, but is only one component, as in great red wines. The infusion scents, as if it were an alcoholic tea. The flavor where the saline elements and the alcoholic warmth dialogue continuously. A total wine, in short, and as far as I am concerned something extraordinary.
