Belle Epoque Edition Première 2010, Perrier-Jouët’s ephemeral Cuvée
Belle Epoque Edition Première 2010 has an unusual, lively and delicate bouquet with a diamond-like precision and a silky mellowness, a springtime homage to the Perrier-Jouët style
Seize the day: this is the rule for the Maison Perrier-Jouët’s Cuvée Éphémère , which after its debut three years ago with vintage 2007 and the Edition Automne 2005, returns with a unique version of Belle Epoque Edition Première vintage 2010. The growing season in Champagne that year was complex weather-wise and began with a frost which meant the buds came out later than the average of the previous ten years. This was followed by an exceptionally sunny July that allowed the vines to make up for lost time during the summer, while rain in August allowed the grapes develop but complicated the decision of when to harvest.
Maison Perrier-Jouët found the grapes from this harvest to be particularly fresh and light and these qualities became the leitmotiv for this unique interpretation of the limited edition of Belle Epoque, a Champagne that in the glass has always epitomized elegant refinedness and expression. The Maison’s chef de cave, Hervé Deschamps, described Belle Epoque Edition Première as a new, springtime expression of the Maison’s Cuvée de Prestige, “an ephemeral cuvée which is an ode to the beauty of nature so dear to the Maison ”. The few bottles of Edition Première currently available retail were offered to the market only during a brief window before the summer and this version of Belle Epoque could become a surprise for those who leave a bottle in their cellar for a few seasons.
The Grand Crus Chardonnay (90%) and the Pinot Noir from Vertus – the only Cotes des Blancs village where red wine can be made – strike abalance between the freshness and fruit to create a light rosé made like a blanc de blancs with a touch of Pinot Noir fermented de saignée.
Since its foundation in 1811, Maison Perrier-Jouët has considered nature and elegance to be its inspiration and, remaining faithful to this philosophy, Hervé Deschamps let himself be inspired for this wine by the bouquet, beauty and delicacy of the flowers in bloom surrounding Maison Belle Epoque, Perrier-Jouët’s historic headquarters. Perrier-Jouët has modeled its celebrated Belle Epoque Edition Première with its authentic artisanal style and enhancing it with a unique, vivacious and delicate bouquet that has a diamond-like precision and the mellowness of silk, making a springtime homage to the Perrier-Jouët style.
