Villamagna Doc Montepulciano d'Abruzzo

Villamagna Doc is the smallest appellation in the world: only 85 hectares for a Montepulciano d'Abruzzo grown between the Adriatic Sea and the Majella mountain range.

Villamagna Doc was born in 2011, embracing the narrow territory of the municipality of Villamagna and partly those of Vacri and Bucchianico, in the province of Chieti, between the Adriatic Sea and the Majella mountain range. Home to the Doc is a land particularly suited to the production of red wines, with soils of clay, limestone and marly matrix, and vineyards that extend limited to 85 hectares, benefiting from large temperature ranges favored by the proximity of the Majella and the sea breeze from the Adriatic Sea that reaches beyond the hills.

To date, it is the smallest appellation in the world, a record that encompasses synergy among producers and a desire to highlight Montepulciano d'Abruzzo in all its glory, obtained in this handkerchief of land and claimed in about 70,000 bottles annually. The proposed "zoning" by the consortium is the next step for the well-deserved success, which will take into account the geological, pedological, climatic and agronomic characteristics of the individual production sites.

Today, the wines that bear the Villamagna Doc label-both vintage and reserve-appear versatile, fresh and gastronomic, never banal and above all with a complex and sometimes austere soul inherent in the Montepulciano grape and, importantly, contextualizing them geographically.

The Villamagna Doc expresses in the vintage version the "pop" soul of the new generations that are at the helm of the wineries, thus affirming an authentic revolution/innovation in the field of production, while the riserva reveals tradition, recognizability and charm of anticipation, where time, maturity, shows the deep and charismatic aspect of the wine that reminds the sip of the tangible beauty of the micro landscape where the roots of the montepulciano vines are rooted.
