Verdicchio dei castelli di jesi vigneto

To lovers of the great white wines from Marche region, and not only, we offer a selection not to be taken for granted with an excellent quality/price ratio, as in the spirit of this column.

In the Marche region Verdicchio grape has been cultivated since ancient times and the wine having the same name has been, in the sixties and seventies, one of the most popular white wines of Italy. The success of wines produced with the so called international varieties (Sauvignon and Chardonnay) had put it in the background; in the last years, however, researches on clones and scrupulous experiments in cellar allowed a certain number of producers to achieve very interesting results. We would like to suggest you five of them from Castelli di Jesi, of excellent quality and offered at affordable prices.

The first one is from Pievalta winery, which is part of the wineries owned by Barone Pizzini, a famous winery in Franciacorta, and which is based, just like the others, on a viticulture inspired to biodynamic philosophy, being part of a great business project which is developed in many Italian regions.

Then there is Monte Schiavo, one of the largest private wineries in the Castelli di Jesi area, viticultural expression of the Pieralisi Group, international leader in machinery for oil mills. The winery also offers versions of Rosso Piceno and Rosso Conero, but in our opinion the best results always come from the Verdicchio side.

Casalfarneto winery is located in Serra de' Conti and spreads on about 60 hectares (about 160 acres) of which 35 are vineyards and are located on the sweet hills of Cesina. Much attention is paid to the environment and to the ecosystem and many investments are made in order to make the production structure integrated and respectful of the territory but at the same time in the forefront in order to ensure high quality standards.

We then come to a beautiful property in the heart of Morro d'Alba, owned by the Marotti Campi family since the 1800's, in which however the vineyard acquired a fundamental role in the 1990's with the current generation in charge. A small production carried on with great style, it has become a point of reference for the production of lacrima, but it is able to obtain important results with verdicchio as well.

Let's conclude with Colonnara, the cooperative winery of Cupramontana, established 60 years ago thanks to the initiative of 19 vine-growers and currently made of about 110 members who actively participate to the life of the cooperative. The strong credit of notoriety and reputation have as a positive consequence an excellent quality/price ratio of all wines.
