Sardinia and Vermentino, a winning combination
It is the Sardinian white that everyone loves and consumes, the companion of a thousand summer drinks but not only, a winner on fish cuisine because of its saline and pleasant taste.
Although Sardinia offers several native white varieties such as Nasco, Nuragus, Semidano or the Granazza di Mamoiada and the very recently rediscovered Arvisionadu, there is no doubt that Vermentino is the most famous and the most sought after. We propose two, the first "northern," in fact coming from Gallura, and the second southern, from an area of rolling hills amphitheatrically overlooking the sea in the Gulf of Cagliari. Both from young and very promising realities.
Cantina Li Duni, located on the outskirts of Gallura, was founded in 2003 on the initiative of a group of friends, owners of vineyards that stretch between hills rich in vegetation and the sandy coastline bordering the Gulf of Asinara. Most of the vines are bush-trained and Guyot-trained on loose, sandy soils. The grape varieties used are Vermentino for the whites and Cannonau and other local grapes for the reds, grown on free-range. In just a few years the winery has managed to fine-tune its range of highly expressive, elegant and territorial wines.
Much more recent is the Mora&Memo winery. In 2013 Elisabetta Pala, daughter and granddaughter by trade, decided to make "her" wines armed with a great passion and a tradition that goes back four generations. She chose the southeastern part of Sardinia to acquire vineyards and produce her grapes. Vermentino and Cannonau the main varietals to which are flanked by Monica, and a small production of Sauvignon. Bovale and Nuragus are not lacking. Thus were born some very interesting and extremely Mediterranean wines, in terms of origins and styles.
