More than three years ago, none other than Doctor Wine himself, Daniele Cernilli, dedicated a small vertical tasting to this wine. I return to it here to complete the wonderful tasting, adding vintages that came out after as well as Elena’s first wines, her tests. While the latter were exercises in style, they already prepared the ground for what would become a ‘phenomenon’, the most important one for the area of Vulture. Anyone who knows me know I do not like to dwell on grape varieties when we are dealing with a great area, convinced as I am that a terroir is more important than the grape in giving personality to a wine.

As far as the path Elena has taken and her philosophy of winemaking, I suggest you re-read the article by the ‘Doc’. I could not explain the concepts he set down any better. One small detail, the first vintage produced was 2000 and only five barriques of wine were made.

I would like to thank Elena Fucci for inviting me to this magnificent and complete tasting of all the vintages she has produced. When reading my reviews, keep in mind that the essence of Titolo is its elegance, while maintaining its ‘Karma of the Vulture’ characteristic, those distinct tannins found in the Aglianico grape here and elsewhere.

All the following wines are 100% Aglianico and age in barriques of new wood, both French and Italian, usually for 12 months. As you can see, my ratings are not always in line with those Cernilli gave at the time, this in part because of the difference the four years can make between tastings and because in part because we do not always agree on everything.
