La Luna e i Falò, a ‘Super Barbera’
When one thinks of Langhe wines what first comes to mind are Barolo and Barbaresco, then Barbera and the other grapes found here in this land blessed by Bacchus.
A while ago I tasted a few vintages of a Barbera d’Asti Superiore I have always liked: La Luna e i Falò from Terre da Vino, a prestigious winery based in Barolo. This particular Barbera, one of Terre da Vino’s leading products, made its debut in 1988 and represented the winery’s first wine that was the result of a specific concept, one called ‘Super Barbera’. The idea was to blend grapes grown in slightly different soils and micro-climates in order to achieve the best balance between structure and aroma. The grapes were selected from some 70 hectares of low-yield vineyards situated in Agliano Terme, Nizza Monferrato, Mombaruzzo and Rocchetta Tanaro.
